The joint venture to be formed by the two companies will be responsible for the provision of shunting services and operations at the Tarragona Mercaderies rail terminal.
The Temporary Joint Venture (UTE) formed by Transfesa Logistics and SUARDIAZ SLISA, a company belonging to the SUARDIAZ Group, has been awarded the shunting services for the Tarragona Mercaderies rail terminal, which had been put out to tender by the Railway Infrastructure Administrator (Adif) in July 2023. The contract has a duration of five years.
The Tarragona Mercaderies terminal has a logistics area of 20,180 square metres, as well as a track yard and an area dedicated to the handling and storage of intermodal transport units (utis).
This terminal mainly serves the Tarragona Port Authority and the actions to be carried out by the new contractor will allow the reception or dispatch of a train or manoeuvre, such as coupling, uncoupling and coupling railway vehicles, and in the performance of which manoeuvres with or without locomotive and driving operations will be carried out.
According to Félix Díaz, head of operations for Transfesa Logistics’ Railway Services area, ’with this contract, we are expanding our presence in the railway shunting area in the Mediterranean Corridor. We are grateful for the trust that Adif has once again placed in the joint venture made up of SUARDIAZ SLISA and Transfesa Logistics for the shunting service at the terminal over the next few years’.
For Yolanda Atienzar, general manager of SUARDIAZ SLISA ‘we are delighted to be able to expand our services in the Mediterranean Corridor. In addition, we are proud to have achieved a very good score in the bidding process as it is thanks to the good work developed by SUARDIAZ SLISA and Transfesa Logistics in terminal management’.
