The Royal Spanish Naval League and the Spanish Maritime Cluster organised the IV National Maritime Congress on the 8 and 9th of May in which the reality faced by the Spanish maritime sector was discussed, as well as its future in the short term. As in previous editions, the congress served to express the joint voice of a sector whose importance is totally unknown to Spanish society.
The National Maritime Congress did not differ much from the previous congresses held in Santander and Cartagena in 2014 and 2016 respectively, trying to create maritime awareness in Spain that serves as a dynamic economic element through all the parties involved in the sector.
Juan Riva, CEO of Suardiaz Group, who participated in the session “Realities and Challenges of the Spanish Merchant Navy” defined maritime transport as “the backbone of the blue economy with positive consequences on other sectors such as shipbuilding, its auxiliary industry, related services “and especially in” the availability of experienced sailors that all maritime sectors need.”
