Bunkering

There are different methods for refuelling vessels, depending on the geographical point where the service is required. If they are sailing, fuel can be supplied:

• Ship-to-Ship (STS): with one boat next to another acting as a tank, which helps save time.
• Stern Line Bunkering: similar to STS, but keeping a few metres’ distance between the two boats.

Also, when the boat is at a port, other kinds of refuelling are possible:

• Pipe-to-Ship (PTS): with a pipe from a terminal on a dock.
• Truck-to-Ship (TTS): with one or more tanker lorries where the vessel is berthed.

Particularly noteworthy among the benefits of bunkering for the marine sector is the reduction in emissions and the improvement in energy efficiency, enabling us to state that it is a sustainable option. There are several laws and regulations related to bunkering that SUARDIAZ Group adheres to by following our commitment to the quality and safety of our services:

• ISO 20519:2017 regulation for LNG bunkering.
• Royal Decree 335/2018 for diesel oil and heavy fuel oil bunkering.

We also take into consideration the MARPOL Convention which establishes the emissions limits for air pollutants and waste management; the IMDG Code for transporting dangerous goods; and the ISPS Code to protect vessels and port facilities.
